Set The Scene
Backing right onto a sprawling expanse of beach, W Bali – Seminyak is also only a five-minute drive to the shops and restaurants of downtown Petitenget. It only took me a seven-minute walk to the TAKSU Bali Gallery, and a 10-minute stroll down the beach to the 15th-century Hindu Petitenget Temple. Immediately surrounding the resort are other hotels, shops, and restaurants. The Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 30 minutes away by car.
Featuring a total of 152 Wonderful and Spectacular Retreats, 4 Marvelous Suites, 1 WOW Suite, 1 Extreme WOW (E-WOW) Suite and 79 Villa Retreats (65 Marvelous One-Bedroom Pool Villa, 10 WOW Two-Bedroom Pool Villa, and 4 Extreme WOW Three-Bedroom Pool Villa), the ‘wow’ factor of W Bali – Seminyak will certainly take your attention away from your bustling life throughout your holiday. Surrounded by the beautifully landscaped verdant Oasis, I really enjoyed the fantastic convenience of Marvelous One Bedroom Pool Villa, where the 24-hour Whatever/Whenever® valet service makes things happen for you. During my stay, I can enjoy the ultimate privacy on its sundeck, where comfy sun lounges make it the perfect spot to grab a book and have a tan. Roll, lounge, curl up, drape, stretch out, or just be on the 4-square-meter Bale Bengong daybed—only available in this Villa—overlooking the 43-square-meter private plunge pool that’s always very inviting for a cool dip.
Food and Drinks?
I was impressed by the beverage program experience too. I got to experience W Bali’s finest Woo Bar featuring the most remarkable sunset experience. There was, of course, my selection of their classic cocktails of Bali’s Ritual – Gin based, homemade tangerine and elderflower liqueur, dry vermouth, holy essence. For the other one we ordered – Cacao Negroni with Gin based, campari, cacao white and lavender bitter. These two are my warm-weather Woo Bar’s favorites. Of course, it is not complete without a side of snacks to accompany the drinks. The Woobar signature cones cinnamon maple chicken is a must to order, featuring sambal aioli, sage and delicious pickled shishito chili.
The dining experience was, to my mind, one of the most magnificent – and magnificently consistent – parts about this resort. What I mean by being consistent, it was persistent across all the F&B outlets venues in W Bali Seminyak too: the food we ate by the pool, in room dining, and the restaurants. One of the most iconic restaurant outlets that we were extremely satisfied with was Fire Restaurant.
“Fire” is symbolically named after the Balinese Dance “Kecak” where over 50 chorus chanting male dancers, clad in black and white sarongs, gather in a ring around the “fire flame” to act out a traditional story. The Kecak is a triumph of style and mood, and elements of this story can be seen all over the restaurant, from the ceiling fire ball to the sarong style glass pendants, to the visuals played out on the textured ceiling, through to the black and white checkered marble buffet counter. I am most impressed with the plethora of menu they have to offer during my visit.
For the entrees, I had a wonderful time tasting the Seared Sea Scallops with Kalasan sauce, confit potato, crushed cashew, mustofa potato, and kemangi oil. Moving onto the next one we ordered, Green Pea Tortellini with lemon balm pesto, toasted pistachio and wasabi arugula.
Then moving on to the main menu, the restaurant’s iconic Meat Sampler: Kiwami Pure Bled Wagyu Striploin 9+, Stockyard Black Angus 200+Days, Thomas Food BLack Angus 200 Days, Stockyard Silver Label Wagyu 8+, Pinnacle 100 Days Grass-Fed Tenderloin. Then Fire’s Signature Dry Aged Black Angus Tomahawk is up next – a stockyard Black Angus Tomahawk beef rib dry aged for 21 Days. The absolute fresh new perspective is one of a kind experience in the island of Bali we must say! (It was excellent, though we asked for medium and it was a bit too rare). Then we wrapped the whole pleasant course with Quinoa Crusted Yellowfin Tuna seafood goodness; served with Black garlic sabayon, edamame falafel, squash vinaigrette and eggplant ravioli.
Last but not least, there’s always room for dessert, kid you not – you must order their W Chocolate Bon Bon, with melted dark chocolate, hazelnut paste and vanilla sauce and Raspberry Cheesecake with crispy milk tuiles, crumble and raspberry sorbet.
Just before I left the hotel, I also got to experience such splendid funky W Bali’s Pyramid Afternoon Tea. Set in the lobby with an amazing pool view, I mean what else could you ask for?
After a truly memorable culinary experience, I also get an honor to experience W Bali – Seminyak renowned AWAY Spa. Let’s face it, our skin always needs some love even during holidays, and true relaxation is more than skin deep. From full body timeouts to sensational treatments to surprise your spirit, the treatment center is ready to whisk you AWAY (pun intended) from it all whenever you need it. I was offered a 1,5 hours of Balinese massage at AWAY Spa, and I couldn’t ask for more. The professional therapist gently applied their massage technique with natural-sourced oil and I felt the benefit immediately upon my body. Gone are my weariness and replaced with a new, rejuvenated feeling as the indulging wellness journey continues. The spa’s whole extraordinary vibe also welcomes you to explore sensory delights set against vivid colors, playful scents, imaginative sounds, energizing light.
For the next phase in making their business more sustainable, while the world rallies towards the ban on plastics, W Bali-Seminyak introduces “Feed Goby The Fish” programme. Officially launched in 2019, a giant see-through fish (Goby) was installed on W Bali’s beachfront to raise awareness and help reduce plastic in the Bali Ocean. W Bali – Seminyak are aware of its social responsibility when it comes to sustainability and the impact plastic has on the environment. W Bali – Seminyak has been working for more than 5 years to be Earthcheck certified every year, working on reducing waste, energy and water consumption and engaging in strict recycling practices. Goby will help us show what is happening when the trash ends up in the sea: in the belly of the fish; and with this tell a simple message: the only fish that should eat plastic is Goby the Fish!
Anything Left To Mention?
To say my three days two night stay at W Bali-Seminyak was satisfying would be a major understatement. I was blown away by their utmost services, facility and inspiring, brilliant programme from start to finish. This is truly a haven where people can go Whatever/Whenever without any hassle; a getaway to cherish your holiday at its fullest, in one of the world’s best tropical island destinations.
