We’d heard rumors swirling around about an extravagant oriental-themed bar in downtown Seminyak, which established to fulfill every guest need for a memorable after sunset dine-and-chill experience. We had to investigate and see how all this tied together.
Stepping through the entrance of ShiShi Izakaya Lounge & Nightclub, we can’t help but paused in awe, as that wow-moment insists you do when met by stunning design. From the printed ceiling to the elegant table arrangement, this was a work of art, attention to every detail in its finest. And finally, a venue in Bali where we didn’t feel overdressed.
The ground floor is the Izakaya Lounge. This is where the promise of a memorable night begins, with dinner, drinks and a curated set from the DJ. Being handed with the menus, we were pleased to discover most dishes are crafted for sharing.
The Chilled Oysters and Korean Fried Chicken caught our eyes and tongue first with juicy, crunchy and scrumptiously satisfying mix of flavor. Moving across the menu; a selection of sushi, sashimi, dumplings, ramen and a variety of seafood and meats reveals themselves, ready to cater our hunger. We learned the man behind the menu was none other than Bali’s most famous culinary engineer, James Ephraim. Well, this raised the stakes of our expectations!
The food arrived like arrangements of art that demanded we admire its aesthetics before being enjoyed by the palette. Each dish is like a reimagined version of our favorite Asian classics. A subtle departure into fusion with a healthy respect for tradition. As we savor the dishes, the DJ cast an upbeat vibe across the room. We were impressed how all the elements had been balanced to support the experience.
Then, the cocktails—much like the food, were works of art themselves. One came in a Game of Thrones type chalice. Another bellowed dry-ice fog across our table. We drank to good times and the envy of our friends as we filled our instagram feeds with luscious images of our experience.
The ever-rising scene of Bali’s culinary excellence seems to have a new contender for a seat at the top. The food, the drinks, all an extension of the experience. ShiShi, Izakaya Lounge & Nightclub will definitely be on our bucket list from now on.
