Movement Matters Bali is Ubud’s first equipment-based Pilates, Gyrotonic and Rolfing Structural Integration studio.

In just four short years, Ubud’s Movement Matters Bali has become the island’s most respected Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Rolfing destination. Founded by master teacher Sook Fun, this elegant studio is tucked away in the quiet village of Nyuh Kuning, just minutes away from the hustling and bustling of the city center. Movement Matters is taking bodywork into another level by offering a unique blend of mind-body exercises, integrated bodywork, and teacher training to help clients reach their ultimate health goals.

Movement Matters is the first studio in Bali, and one of very few in the world to offer the Big Three of Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Rolfing Structural Integration under one roof. Pilates is a series of stretching and strengthening exercises that occur on mats or machines with a focus on breathing, body awareness, and developing postural muscles to support the core. Gyrotonic is a movement sequence that stretches and strengthens the spine three-dimensionally, allowing the body to express itself rhythmically and gracefully along with easing chronic pain. Rolfing is a form of manual manipulation focusing on the fascia, the layer of connective tissue that surrounds muscles and other bodily structures, to realign and achieve optimal function in gravity.

“These three modalities (Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Rolfing),” says Sook Fun, “are the effective tools for a healthy life. A consistent program
of one or a combination of the three increases core strength, builds flexibility and stability, improves alignment, corrects posture, fine tunes coordination and allows ease of movement many of our clients have never had before.”

Sook Fun has 28 years of experience in the field of movement, as a classically trained dancer, a Pilates and Gyrotonic instructor, and a certified Rolfer. She and her well-trained team have built a loyal client base of local Indonesians, resident expatriates, and tourists.
